Fire Fuel Reduction and Conversion
Reducing Kulaʻs fuel load is one of our top priorities, and weʻre helping neighborhoods establish firebreaks and reduce the amount of dangerous fuels that are lying on the ground, and in gulches.
-
Kula Community Green Waste Bins
Need green waste removed? We’re here to help out. The goal is to not only help reduce fuel loads for future fire events, but also help thin out properties and gulches that are dry and overgrown.
-
Kūpuna Curbside Green Waste Pickup
Over 25% of Kula is over the age of 60, and they either donʻt have access to a truck, or no longer have the physical strength thatʻs required to fire-harden their homes.
-
Kula Disaster and Fire Relief
From Day 1 of the Kula Fire, the Mālama Kula team has had boots on the ground, rallying to help our neighbors. We’re committed to offering that same support in the event of future disasters.
-
Kula Community Work Days
Want to help out, volunteer, and make a difference? Join in one of our service projects to help Kula fire victims recover! From scattering wood chips to planting native trees, every hand helps.
-
Kula Fire Detection Cameras
We’re committed to keeping our community safe, which is why we installed Kula’s first AI-enabled, fire detection cameras, which will issue alerts to MFD whenever smoke is detected.
-
Kula Curbside Recycling
Free, weekly curbside recycling for HI-5 beverage containers! All the redemption money goes back into cleanup efforts, and it allows us to make our weekly round to check in and connect with the community.
-
Infrastructure Advocacy
Overhead utility lines; our aging, inadequate water supply; long delays in repairing our roads. We’re here to advocate for our Kula community in addressing—and advancing—our need for better infrastructure.
-
Neighbors Hiring Neighbors
We have a lot of talented people in Kula, and this online resource is where you can either list your services, or search for someone to hire. It helps us keep money in the local community by hiring fellow Kula residents!
-
Air, Soil, and Human Health Testing
In response to damage from the Kula Fire, Mālama Kula is helping provide funding for independent analysis of air, soil, and human health samples for residents near the affected burn zone.
